More speed is not deep transformation

Deloitte AI Institute · Deloitte · 29 Oct 2026

Source finding

81 percent report faster decisions and execution through AI. 25 percent say they are deeply transforming their business through new offerings, reinvented core processes or a fundamentally different business model. Two separate questions to the same sample.

Our interpretation

Speed and changing how the business works are separate goals. The survey does not establish measured productivity or causal business impact.

Method and evidence

Deloitte surveyed 3,500 IT and business leaders across 25 countries and six industries in May–June 2026. All companies already used AI in daily operations. Supplemented by 15 interviews. Moderate evidence for self-reports within this selected group.

Limitations and interests

Not representative of all companies. No observed process times or experimentally demonstrated impact. Speed and transformation responses are neither disjoint nor established subsets. Deloitte sells AI and transformation consulting.

What businesses can do

For an accelerated workflow, also review tasks, approvals and decision rights. Set separate goals for time saved and for changes to the business.
