Only 7 percent plan AI provider switching across the organisation
TCS Thought Leadership Institute · Tata Consultancy Services · 4 Nov 2026
Source finding
For switching critical AI workloads to another model or provider when needed, 7 percent report organisation-wide preparation, 34 percent preparation for most and 47 percent for a few critical use cases. 12 percent are not prepared at all.
Our interpretation
Model independence needs a concrete switching route. Having a plan and switching successfully are different forms of evidence.
Method and evidence
Survey of 1,333 senior business and technology leaders in 25 countries and 12 industries. Companies with annual revenue of USD 500 million to over USD 20 billion. Moderate evidence for reported preparation, not a causal test.
Limitations and interests
Large-company self-reports. No independently tested switching readiness; field period, response rate and statistical uncertainty not specified in the reviewed report. TCS sells AI and consulting services. Original percentages rounded to whole numbers.
What businesses can do
Create a switching plan for critical AI applications. Test data transfer, interfaces, permissions and recovery before a provider becomes unavailable.
